Make your own Megaphone, Par 2 [1]

Hello again from a longtime lurker. I’m sharing some of my messages to my Republican member of the House in case someone else can use the material.

I circulate my messages to local Democratic/activists organizations in the same Congressional District as me, so other people can use them as a boilerplate letter or phone script.

Here are three ways I keep the message local and personal:

1. Look up their committees and caucuses on their websites. For example, as a member of the Problem Solvers Caucus, my Republican Representative has promised to “work across the aisle” (his words).

So, in my letter to my Representative today, I wrote: “Please let me know your plan for working across the aisle to prevent President Trump and his advisor Elon Musk from further reckless, wasteful, illegal and unconstitutional actions against our own government.”

2. If you happen to get a reply in writing (I have), use the same words to respond back. Here’s another example, in response to an email I received on February 11:

“...you indicated that the President followed the law and the Constitution when he ‘issued an executive order reorganizing the U.S. Digital Service, an existing entity within the Executive Office, and renaming it the U.S. DOGE Service (USDS).’ You characterize this as an effort to ‘modernize federal technology and software to improve government efficiency and productivity.’ Can you update your letter with a more accurate description of the circumstances?

“Despite your assurances, the President’s executive orders have resulted in a chaotic waste of taxpayer money, compromised public safety, undermined national security, and touched off a borderline constitutional crisis. In particular, the national security consequences of virtually eliminating USAID alone will be borne by taxpayers for years to come as illegally fired workers and others impacted by the fallout from President’s executive orders seek relief in court.”

3. Subscribe to their newsletter. Typically they include news about meetings and events they attend. Last week I sent a letter using some of that information: “As a subscriber to your newsletter, I also appreciate knowing that you recently met with [a state assemblywoman]. You indicate that you ‘discussed ways we can work together to support New Jersey.’ Have you met with other state office holders to discuss ways to support businesses and communities impacted by the executive orders issued by President Trump?”

That’s it for now! You can use any of this material for phone scripts or letters. For letters, I using my Representative’s online contact form because they are automatically logged in by topic.

Thanks for reading. Let me know if any of this is helpful...
