Today, as I checked out of a hotel, a woman on line just ahead of me was wearing a large button, “Americans for Ukraine.”
She told me that she was checking into the hotel to attend a protest. While I indicated support, I didn’t share much of my own personal views.
She said that she was Angry! Angry! Angry! about what [Agent Orange] was doing. She “never thought he’d go this far.”
She explained that was a never-Trumper:
I didn’t vote for either one of them … I was for Nikki Haley… she was my candidate… she knew what she was doing… So neither one got my vote. Neither one !!!
I didn’t say a word in response. I do think, however, that my expression gave me away. I believe that I stayed silent, but I’m sure that I smirked a bit in disbelief. How could anyone who was obviously fairly knowledgable about issues didn’t foresee this. Yet, it was so obvious.
It makes me wonder. From the perspective of this type of voter, what was so awful about Vice President Harris? Is the branding that bad? Is the Democratic Party toxic? The answer to this question is more than anecdotal.
