Russian stuff blowing up: US weapons deliveries to Ukraine have reportedly halted [1]

No surprise here. In fact, I’m surprised it didn’t happen on Jan. 20.
x "Arms deliveries from the US to Ukraine have stalled. Even weapons meant for sale are now on hold. Companies ready to supply them tomorrow are waiting—no decision yet. Everyone expects a resolution so that arms can keep flowing, even for money," Head of Ukraine’s Defense Committee Roman Kostenko.

A major research institute in Moscow doing defense work went up in flames.
x A research institute in Moscow, the Lebedev Institute of Precision Mechanics and Computer Engineering, which developed military tech and was under EU and Swiss sanctions, burned down overnight. The cause of the fire is undisclosed.

How hard is it to leave the damn mine alone?
This report acknowledges that the war is dominated by drones.
A new report from the UK defense think tank RUSI is a trove of information gleaned from interviews with Ukrainian military personnel in frontline units. The most obvious conclusion: this is a drone war, and using drones effectively for both offense and defence is critical for armies going forward. A key finding is that tactical drones are inflicting roughly two-thirds of Russian losses. In other words, they are twice as effective as every other weapon in the Ukrainian arsenal put together. This is a remarkable turnaround for weapons which did not officially exist in the Ukrainian military at the start of the war. It is also remarkable to see this sort of analysis from RUSI. RUSI, full name The Royal United Services Institute, describes itself as ‘the world’s oldest and the UK’s leading defence and security think tank’ having been founded by the Duke of Wellington in 1831. RUSI enjoys a cordial relationship with the British military establishment and does not jump on to every passing technology bandwagon. Rather than interpreting every new development as a possible revolution, they place it in the larger military context of gradual evolution.
Yep. All those people who expressed cautious optimism that Trump might do the right thing were living in Fantasyland.
x “Capitulation is pathetic and weak.” Democratic Sen. Blumenthal slams Trump’s attacks on Ukraine, calling them a “disgusting betrayal” of a nation fighting for freedom. “What world is he living in? His words defy facts and truth.”

What do you call a “negotiation” where one side caves to everything the other side wants?
x It seems Fox News is now reporting exactly this. Meanwhile Lavrov is giving a press conference now following the talks in Saudi between #Russia and the #US. bsky.app/profile/twmc...

I have no doubt Zelenskyy would like to tell Trump to go fuck himself.
x 🇺🇸🤔 "Some of the insults coming out of Kyiv are simply unacceptable," — Mike Waltz ❗️"President Trump is very upset with Zelensky right now. I think Zelensky will sit down at the negotiating table very quickly."

If they want Trump’s help, they better be prepared to pay up.
x Drones, satellites, and reconnaissance aircraft will also be deployed, and two groups are likely to operate in the Black Sea for demining and patrolling.

This is the guy who acted like Trump’s bag man by going to Ukraine and presenting Zelenskyy with the “deal” to turn over Ukraine’s mineral wealth in exchange for aid.
x 🇺🇸🤔 Bessent said that if the U.S. need to, they will lift sanctions against Russia. ❗️He also said that many of Zelensky's statements in Munich were "inappropriate".

From the guy who fell asleep during Jimmy Carter’s funeral.
The extortion campaign continues. If he doesn’t sign are they going to leave a severed horse’s head in Zelenskyy’s bed?
Nice country you have there, President Zelenskyy. It’d be a shame if anything happened to it.
x ⚡️Ukraine needs to 'tone it down,' sign US minerals deal, Waltz says. "They need to tone it down and take a hard look and sign that deal," U.S. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz told Fox News.

Russia stubbornly keeps sending soldiers across the river and getting them killed for nothing.
x Throughout the night, Russian forces attempted to cross the Dnipro river and take positions on the islands. Ukrainian defenders destroyed two Russian boats and eliminated a dozen Russian infantrymen, Ukrainian soldier Stanislav Osman from the 24th Aidar Batallion reports.

Drones have given Ukraine a version of air supremacy at the Pokrovsk front in that Russian troops are being dropped off 10 km from the contact line because vehicles can’t get any closer.
x The already minuscule Russian advances in Donbas have further slowed down. In the last 3 weeks Russians took not more than 23 square kilometers, or in other words, around 1 square kilometer per day.

On top of that, Russian bloggers reported that Ukrainian drones dominate the skies of Pokrovsk. Russian vehicles are getting methodically destroyed and cannot be effectively used, to an extent that Russian human material needs to be disembarked at spots more than 10 kilometers from the front line. The rest they walk on foot. Many if not most of them don't make it alive to the contact line. It even enabled Ukrainians forces to partially reverse Russian gains in the Pokrovsk sector.
Drones blowing up a lot of Russian stuff.
Another 1,160 Russians who should have stayed home — plus 14 tanks and 63 artillery systems.
Ukraine has made further progress south of Pokrovsk. Lysivka is a village southeast of Pokrovsk and east of the recently captured Pishchane.
Sverdlikovo is a village northwest of Sudzha in the Kursk area.
x Ukrainian Defense Forces regained control in the village of Lysivka near Pokrovsk, while Russian troops captured the village of Sverdlikovo in Kursk Oblast. english.nv.ua/nation/fight...

This is an interesting analysis on the situation along the Pokrovsk/Kostiantynopil front.
x So for several days now the Russians have been clearing the "Kurahove pocket", from where, after the Russians have taken Dachne and Ulakly, the AFU is retreating towards Kostiantynopil, and the main forces of the 8th OVA are being transferred to the section of the front between Myrnohrad and Toretsk

Soon, only the weakest formation of the RuAF, Army Group "Wostok", will probably remain in the Novopavlovsk direction, and the goal of its operations will be to reach the borders of the Donetsk region (from the south from Velyka Novosilka and from the east from Kostiantynopil) and declare the "liberation of Donbass". A very interesting situation is beginning to form on the rest of the front in the Donetsk region. The most aggressive part of the Russian army, Army Group "Center", has managed to approach the T-504 road near Malinivka (right wing) in the direction of Pokrovsk since the beginning of the year and start fighting for Kotlyne and Udachne (left wing). In February, the initiative passed to the Ukrainian side, which allowed the Russians to be pushed back from many of the fortified points they had occupied. Overall, the Russian offensive has reached a standstill. This is the moment that the head of the Russian General Staff, Valery Gerasimov, has been waiting for for a long time, and according to information from journalists from Wolya-Media, who maintain contacts with officers in the Russian headquarters: "The appointment of Alexander Sanchik to the Kramatorski direction can be considered the next phase of the conflict between Valery Gerasimov and Andrey Mordvichev, who led the Russian offensive on Avdiivka and the Pokrovskiy direction. Since the beginning of the war, Valery Gerasimov has been consistent in his relations with his most decorated generals. As soon as one of his subordinates begins to gain authority, significance and influence, his authority makes a huge impression on him and the most combat-ready units are removed from command. This was already the case with General Teplinsky at the end of the summer of 2023. Now there is a risk that the history of Teplinsky will repeat itself with Mordvichev, whose group will be reduced in favor of Sanchik.”
Russia used to be able to do this kind of thing with impunity. It won’t work in Ukraine this time.
x Osechkin's source: FSB and SVR are currently working on organizing a coup against President Zelensky in Kyiv. It will involve Ukrainian officials who'd agree to capitulate to Russia in exchange for high power positions in the hypothetical puppet government of Ukraine.
