For those unfamiliar with him, Tom Waits is worth a listen.

Speaking of music and ways to inform and educate (click the flutter to watch the video). This is a fecking brilliant idea!

x If I had a band or a label, I would do a punk cover of "No More Kings" from Schoolhouse Rock. And then I would gather a bunch of people to write a whole album of next-generation Schoolhouse Rock songs, with songs about Social Security and Medicaid and NOAA. I am not kidding in the least.

This is good news on so many levels! Plus, Meidas Touch is one of my go to sources.

x The key point that was made in this clip is that it happened organically. We don’t come from the consultant class, we get zero legacy media hype, we don’t get invited on shows & don’t want to be on TV, no big money donors writing checks. It all happened one person at a time. bsky.app/profile/acyn...

Sigh.

Gomer Pyle is not surprised.

x The DOGE firings have nothing to do with “efficiency” or “cutting waste.” They’re a direct push to weaken federal agencies perceived as liberal. This was evident from the start, and now the data confirms it: targeted agencies overwhelmingly those seen as more left-leaning. 🧵⬇️

Click the flutter to read the whole thread/analysis, it's in depth and, unfortunately, not surprising. Here's the money quote.

x 6/ Authoritarians often disguise political purges as ‘cost-cutting’ or ‘efficiency’ measures. They claim the purges about streamlining government but are done to consolidate power. This is what’s happening now. And it’s only the start. — Adam Bonica (@adambonica.bsky.social) February 19, 2025 at 6:18 PM

Okay folks, you know what to do…

From the comments:

x If you have to ask the general public for ideas on how to do your job because less than 30 days on the job you are out of ideas, maybe you should accept the facts. You’re not qualified for the job. Fire yourself, moron! — chitownaquarius.bsky.social (@chitownaquarius.bsky.social) February 19, 2025 at 5:33 AM

In case you have some free time on your hands. People Are Trolling Trump Hard Thanks To MapQuest's New Customizable Map Tool. www.comicsands.com/…

People are cackling after the mapping company MapQuest announced it has no intentions of changing the Gulf of Mexico to the "Gulf of America"—and instead has created a "Gulf Map Generator" that allows people to troll President Donald Trump by renaming the body of water however they'd like.

I'm including their Bluesky announcement because the comments are brutal and high-larious!

x Because you TOTALLY asked for this… and MapQuest has NOTHING better to do… We’ve granted you exclusive access to a place very dear to our heart: gulfof.mapquest.com Think of it as the Upside Down but more... minimalist. Pls share so we can behold your genius (or judge you, lovingly) 😘

Thank you Friendship Hospital for Animals! Animal hospital in DC waives fees for laid off federal workers. www.wusa9.com/…

WASHINGTON — As federal workers in the D.C. region and elsewhere deal with uncertainty and chaos brought on by the Trump administration's shrinking of the federal workforce, an animal hospital in the District is being praised for its compassion. On Monday, Friendship Hospital for Animals, located on Brandywine Street Northwest, posted on its social media pages that it would be waiving its emergency exam fee, along with fees for sick visits. The hospital also said it would be offering extended payment options for all services beginning Tuesday. "To our federal government/contractor community, we understand more than most that accidents and emergencies have a way of happening at the worst possible time," the post reads. "Friendship Hospital is here to help care for your pets during these challenging times."
