Eric Adams must be removed to prevent the normalization of corruption [1]

In the space of 24 hours, the GOP proved not just beyond reasonable doubt, but ALL doubt, that it is out to normalize a level of corruption that has never been tolerated in this country or in any well-functioning democracy. And it also proved beyond all doubt that Eric Adams’ tenure as mayor of New York City has run its course.
First, the New York Post—owned by Rupert Murdoch—used its front page to call New York Gov. Kathy Hochul a coward for even thinking about removing Adams.
x
The Post saw fit to front page an op-ed by Michael Goodwin accusing Hochul of knuckling under to “the noisy anti-Adams, anti-Trump crowds” and calling meetings on the unfolding situation at Gracie Mansion. Goodwin noted that Hochul didn’t act in September when he was indicted, and should have stuck to her previous roadmap of letting the process play out.
What Goodwin doesn’t tell you is that Hochul’s hand was all but forced when the acting U. S. Attorney in Manhattan, Danielle Sassoon, dropped a bombshell (diaried here) when she announced she would resign rather than comply with a Justice Department order to drop the charges. She said that Adams, through his attorneys, wanted the charges dropped before he was willing to help Trump curb illegal immigration. Apparently Goodwin expects Hochul, and the public to ignore this. And judging by his column being front-paged, apparently Murdoch wants Hochul and the public to ignore this as well.
Apparently the man who drafted that ex cathedra order, acting deputy attorney general Emil Bove, expects us to ignore this as well. At a hearing on the request to dismiss the Adams indictment without prejudice, Bove told federal judge Dale Ho that the case hindered Adams’ ability to help Trump in his immigration crackdown. When Ho asked Bove whether such a rationale would apply to “other officials with critical public safety and national security responsibilities in New York,” Bove said—with a straight face—that it would.
Make no mistake about it, folks. After years of blasting Democrats as corrupt, the GOP is now openly trying to normalize corruption. That’s about the only conclusion you can draw from one of the most conservative papers in the country calling Hochul a coward for even considering holding Adams to account just hours before the acting second-in-command at the DOJ admitted helping Trump was more important than bringing Adams to justice.
This is why we need to urge Hochul to hold the line and remove Adams from office. Sign this petition urging her to do so.
