I was reminded of my late brother Mike when a photo of commendation signed by President Obama arrived for my brother. Mike was a chaplain's assistant for two tours of duty in Vietnam. One day his camp came under attack by the Viet Cong. Mike carried two wounded soldiers to safety. He won the Bronze Star. That evening while showering he discovered he had been hit by shrapnel in his thigh. He refused the Purple Heart.
My Dad told the story of how when he was young of driving a truck full of nitro glycerine.
One of the bravest and most heart breaking things I have ever done was making the decision of turning off the life support for my brother Reid. His body was shutting down and couldn't be saved. He would only be a vegetable and that wasn't fair to him.
We live in perilous times. Our freedom and this country is under attack. I am 76 and crippled with arthritis so getting out and picketing is not an option. I am all over the internet however letting people know the truth of what is going on. I make my voice heard.
We can all fight in our own way. Now is the time to have the courage of our convictions. We can't afford to be silent. Even if all you can do is like and support others.
