I have been absolutely heartsick to watch my government aligning against an independent, democratic Ukraine, and I felt compelled by today’s headlines to find a way of tangibly supporting the Ukrainian cause. This was partially driven from my selfish needs to feel personally empowered in the growing chaos of our sociopolitics, but also from a desire to express to the Ukrainian people that the United States still stands with them (regardless of our government’s shameful behaviors).
So, I made a $250 donation to the Initiative of the President of Ukraine. Short of enrolling as a volunteer international legionnaire (for which I am wholly unqualified), I really can’t think of a more individually impactful act, and I suppose I’m making this post to humbly suggest that others join if they have the capacity, in hopes that the power of our individual contributions will be amplified through collective action.
I also welcome everyone’s stories on how they’re working to preserve hope and to fight the good fight in their own small ways. I’m finding a lot of inspiration over these past weeks in people sharing the actions they’re taking to steer us towards a better tomorrow!
