Even 24% of Republicans hate Musk [1]

If I had to guess, I would have said that over 90% of Republicans approved of Musk, and over 90% of Democrats disapproved. I would have been right about a party difference. But I would have been wrong about the degree.
First, the bad news: According to a Gallup poll , 12% of Democratic Party-inclined voters have a favorable view of the neo-apartheid oligarch. Why? His rockets blow up . His cars crash . And despite making money off alternative energy, he is old school in his embrace of oil and gas. In his spare time, he is a fan of German neo-Nazis . He thinks a democratically-elected UK government should be dispatched. And that's just an amuse-bouche.
The drug-addled megalomaniac is razing the government and murdering democracy quicker than most guys take out the trash.
God only knows what those Democrats favor.
The good news: 24% of Republicans have an unfavorable view of the miserable man. It's probably worse than that. Liberals can be intellectual mavericks — always alert for the first whiff of groupthink. And determined to have their politics just so. But conservatives love orthodoxy and follow-the-leader. QAnon's motto is "Where We Go One, We Go All". MAGA gets more specific, "Where Trump goes. Any questions?".
So when you see almost one in four Republicans admit disapproval of Trump's co-president, that's significant. More so, when you consider that MAGAs — fearful of letting the team down. or showing any independence — will publicly love what they hate in private. You know some of the 73% 'favorable' are 'unfavorable' in their hearts. (I'll also bet that many once-a-week churchgoers are atheists.)
The reader will have noticed that the poll also asked about Mark Zuckerberg. On Facebook’s CEO, there is greater unity. Both sides have him underwater — by a lot. In ordinary times, social media's hollow man would be a headliner in the anti-democratic coup. It's typically news when the world's largest social media site stops fact-checking. But as long as Musk stars in MAGA's dystopian musical, the Zuck will be no more than a spear-carrier in the chorus.
There is hope for the future — America's youth. Gallup broke out the poll results by age. Here's the pollster’s report:
The public's views of Musk and Zuckerberg also modestly vary by age, with younger adults somewhat more negative of both. 67% of adults under 30 hold an unfavorable view of Musk, compared with about half of those ages 30 to 49 (53%) and those 50 and older (49%).
Seven-in-ten adults under 30 and 72% of those ages 30 to 49 have an unfavorable opinion of Zuckerberg. This compares with 62% of those 50 and older. Age differences are particularly pronounced among Republicans when it comes to views of Musk. About half (47%) of Republicans under 30 express an unfavorable view of Musk. By comparison, 23% of those ages 30 to 49 and even fewer of those 50 and older (16%) see him negatively. For Democrats, favorability of Musk does not differ across these three age groups.
There will be those saying, “Who cares about a poll?” In reply, I say take support for the cause wherever you can — no matter how slight. It all helps.
There will be no pushback to Trump from Congress, and red state governments seem likely to stay onside. So, the fight back has to be grass-roots. All antipathy to Trump and his team is welcome. Anything that fertilizes the soil where resistance grows is a plus. You have to start somewhere.
