Boycott SOTU? [1]

It feels to me like it’s gone far enough — it’s clear the Don isn’t gonna follow the law; clear that he’s lying and we’re not getting the real facts. And I understand that Congressional Democrats don’t have much leverage right now. But one thing they CAN do that is totally symbolic, but would drive Donnie NUTS (more nuts) is to boycott the State of the Union speech.
Can you seen Donnie staring out at a half-empty chamber?? Or if the Repubs let the peanut gallery down into the leather seats, Donnie staring at the garish MAGA klan he has to put up with at rallies, but far closer? (If Secret Service even allowed it.) And if SCOTUS attends, they’d have to deal with that, too.
What benefit would Dems get from attending? To sit hostage, wooden faced as he leers and smirks and grinds their noses in his dirt? (I’m sorry for strong language; I’m picturing the scene and it’s ugly). There’s NOTHING Donnie will say that they can cheer — except when he’s lying and making them cheer for the flag or constitution, then later spinning it that they cheered HIM.
Yes, this breaks with “tradition” but really it’s a clear acknowledgement that tradition is GONE. It’s a clear declaration that Dems SEE the coup, the SEE the arrogant criminality — and they won’t sit for it! Symbolism can be very strong… it would also tell the world that Dems are NOT going along with this! Let them go into a conference at the other end of the building, or do some homework about what other things they can do to impede. There’s no requirement to attend, except social pressure.
To that end, I’ll be calling my Senators and Rep and urging them to plan a boycott, and get them to encourage the others. Don’t know if I can get through to other state Dems, but I’ll prepare a letter for my sisters and cousins to use to contact theirs. Tell the Dems to say nothing definite; pretend they will show up, until the last minute when they don’t — that leaves the room half empty. Even if some blinkered GOP revel in having the room “to themselves” I think that the consequences of showing that to the world, and showing Don being very unhappy, is worth it. Let’s at least DROP ALL PRETENSE and show that we know a coup is happening. By March 4th, I predict, it will be totally clear.
