Asking For A Friend... [1]

How do you know when it’s time to flee the country, before it’s too late, before you CAN’T any more?

I really want to know.

If you’re gay or trans? If you’re Jewish or Muslim? If you look Hispanic, or speak Spanish at home? If you’re just plain too outspoken? Or maybe your neighbor doesn’t like you, and reports you to be one of those things, even if it’s not true?

I live in a small town in California. My husband says we’ll be ok. But will we???? WILL WE??? I hope so. But we fit into at least one of those categories.

At what point do they turn off our passports? Mine expires in 2027. Will I be able to renew? I seriously am not sure… What do I do then? I can’t start the renewal process until June of 2026 to find out (your passport needs to expire within one year to renew it.) Will that be too late for me?

Are there undeniable signs before it happens? How much time do you have to get out once they’ve mandated arm badges for “undesirables?”

Do we wait to see if the Brown Shirts to start roughing people up in NY and Portland? Do we wait for The Donvict to declare martial law because there was a protest that some right wing agitator turned into a melee?

Reasonable people keep saying, “Oh, they just want to upend everything, and save money on taxes. They’re not really going to hurt anyone.” REALLY? Then why shut down OSHA, NOAH, CDC and more? As if that doesn’t hurt anyone. Heh. As if.

They’re only getting started. We’re only one month into this living hell. And we’re barely standing up to the tsunami of hate-filled, lawbreaking, destruction. I see NO resistance that will have any affect on the bulldozer they have taken to our country. NONE. A few people in the streets. Some lawsuits.

THEY. DON’T. CARE.

They are just going to do what they want. And that appears to be the Third Reich Playbook, all the way. They’re not even pretending any more that it’s not.

We don’t want to leave our home. But, on the other hand, if we can’t live in this country safely any more, we need to know what the tipping point is.

I can’t be the only who's asking these questions. Your collective wisdom is appreciated...
