It was good for me, was it good for you? [1]

So it was not hard to do. Here it was bright and sunny, about 50 degrees in Austin today. My trip there only took two hours and going into Austin the northbound traffic on I-35 only slowed to a crawl for a couple of miles on the way in. Found an open parking meter right on the back corner of the Capitol grounds. $4.50 for three hours parking and a short walk around the building.

The crowd was decent sized, but well short of massive. I’d say 2000 to 2500 people showed up. We had no celebrity speakers, no politicians came out of the building to address the crowd. This is Texas, so I can’t say I’m surprised no one was willing.

The usual speeches were given about freedom, rights, and a litany of the abuses of the current AIC’s (Assholes In Charge). And there were crowd chants. Some initiated by the speakers, and others taken up by a voice in the crowd. The most enthusiastic one seemed to suggest a physical impossibility for what Governor Abbott could do with himself.

The rally was mercifully scheduled for an hour and a half, which is about the limit for what my hips can take standing nowadays. When I drove away I circled back and saw a good number of people still there.

I’m glad I went, it was worth the effort to wave my sign and chant with the crowd. It felt good to be around a cluster of like minded people expressing discontent with the crap going on. Maybe no one who mattered heard us this time; or they did. One thing I do hope is that the next time there will be more advanced notice; I don’t think anyone knew these rallies were being held nationwide until Friday. I think the crowd of the discontented will be bigger next time. And louder.

Did you go to one? How was it? Please tell about it with a comment.
