GOP and DEI [1]

The current Administration, run by authoritarians, acts like DEI [Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion] is a threat. I will focus on diversity and the relationship of authoritarians to subjects who insist on diversity and to those who don’t.
Conformity can be described as arranging ourselves so that we blend in with those around us. We might dress like each other or go further, voicing the same opinions. Most of us went through a period of conforming when we were teenagers. As we matured and developed our individual character, being like the group became less important. If we were lucky, we found out that it is our differences that offer us the most satisfaction.
A dictator will discourage expression of individual differences among the population, as sameness is an indication of control. Wannabe dictators also strive for compliance in the people. I would place Trump into this category. Of course he wants to get rid of DEI. It is essential to his image as an authoritarian.
An authoritarian’s power does not come from within him or her . Power comes from the people who choose to obey the oppressor's directives. An authoritarian needs people who choose to do what they are told. Conforming in this instance is an act of obedience. Being different is an act of resistance.
In short. conforming to an oppressor’s rules strengthens his or her status. And so, if you want to resist an authoritarian regime, be different. How different? As much as you are comfortable with.
