Don't spend money on February 28 [1]

We’ve needed a powerful, organized, grassroots action to push back on Trump, Musk, and their goons. Zeeksmom included the February 28 economic blackout in a list of actions we can all take right now, but I don’t think a lot of people saw it, so I’m trying again. Apologies if this is really old news that I somehow missed. I hope you enjoy my butterfly photo anyway.
The People’s Union USA has called for a 24-hour economic blackout on Friday, February 28, as its first action. The purpose of the blackout is to stop all discretionary spending for one day “ to show them [corporations and financial institutions] who really holds the power.” Here’s what The People’s Union has to say about the importance of this action:
WHY THIS MATTERS! ~ Corporations and banks only care about their bottom line. ~ If we disrupt the economy for just ONE day, it sends a powerful message. ~ If they don't listen (they won’t) we make the next blackout longer (We will)
There’s talk that the blackout is to protest corporations’ cowardly dismantling of their DEI programs at the behest of Trump, which is certainly a worthy goal. But I believe the purpose is even greater: to demonstrate the economic power we wield if we are willing to take a stand.
The news of the blackout is getting around rapidly by word of mouth, and even the press has started to notice. The People’s Union also has organized, targeted boycotts already in the works.
So on February 28 I plan to join the blackout. I’ll put away my credit cards, I won’t do any shopping, I won’t make any purchases, I won’t spend any money.
We can do this!
