47's EO#4 Champions of a Nationally Sociable Foreign Policy: Exporting Trump's Mafia State [1]

47’s #4:EO14150 Fourth most important thing (after revenge): America First!
This is a such a shorty! Sort of like a real executive order given out by a real president...something fitting for our Little Marco cut his teeth on.
One has to wonder what, “the foreign policy of the United States shall champion core American interests,” really means. Don’t we do that already? Which “core” would that be?
EO 14150 was issued on January 20th. On January 31st, Secretary of State Rubio wrote about his effort to evangelize American core interests. Snappily titled, “An Americas First Policy” Mr Rubio states (in a piece written for the Wall Street Journal, I found it posted to the US Embassy in Colombia webpage) :
Some countries are cooperating with us enthusiastically—others, less so. The former will be rewarded. As for the latter, Mr. Trump has already shown that he is more than willing to use America’s considerable leverage to protect our interests. Just ask Colombia’s President Gustavo Petro. Yet even when circumstances demand toughness, the president’s vision for the hemisphere remains positive. We see a prosperous region rife with opportunities. We can strengthen trade ties, create partnerships to control migration, and enhance our hemisphere’s security.
What is does “rife with opportunities?” connote? “Enhance” is a term Americans have learned to associate with “Interrogation.” His statement “champions” by offering the protection of gangster diplomacy: something one would expect to see coming from a mafia state.
As Mr Rubio stated,
This is an approach to foreign policy based on concrete shared interests, not vague platitudes or utopian ideologies
In fact, according to Mr Rubio, the leaders of Central American nations are,
Like President Trump, ... pragmatists who put their citizens first. And because they are pragmatists, they also know that there is much more to be gained from working with the U.S. than not.
“Pragmatists”? Where have I heard that before?
It should be noted that the text of the EO is confusing. The policy will be to champion core American interests, which seem to be, by Mr. Rubio’s telling, migration control , insulation from China, and jobs, jobs, jobs! (for cheap!)
As stated, the
America First foreign policy... puts America and its interests first.
Except that
the foreign policy of the United States shall champion core American interests and always put America and American citizens first.
So, on the list of things that America First puts first, American interests are first and American citizens are last. Kind of a tell, really.
