Any Interest in Civics Articles Here? Need Help Mapping Out a Series for Daily Kos... [1]

A week ago, I wrote a grand overview of the options people — both elected and unelected — have to resist the increasingly autocratic President Musk and the White House figurehead. It seemed to be well received even though it was extremely long.

Several people chimed in wishing for me to make a series out of the material by breaking it up into more digestible chunks and perhaps going into more detail on each. I’m definitely receptive to doing this, but I’ve struggled to commit to doing so for a few reasons:

This would be a massive time commitment of a few months on my part. I have a job and I am looking for more permanent work. These articles take me time to research and write.

I’m not sure if I am covering everything that needs to be covered.

I have quite a few topics I may think are of interest, but I am unsure if others will be interested.

I’m having trouble establishing a logical order for potential articles. Juggling between Congressional resistance strategies and potential strategies for regular people is proving challenging.

Here are some potential topics I’ve brainstormed covering. Of course, the devil is in the details. I may or may not write about any or all of these.

General Legislative Branch

How It Was Supposed to Work: the Legislative Branch

Highly Controlled Theatre: Explaining Votes in Congress

House Procedure

How the House Operates Day to Day

What’s in a Rule? Why The House Dems Cannot Obstruct

Making the Sausage: Committees and Their Roles

Impeachment: A Fake Check and Balance

Other Tools: Discharge Petitions and Privileged Resolutions

Extracurricular Activities: Seizing the Megaphone

Senate Procedure

Why The Senate Functions Differently Than the House

Unanimous Consent: How the Senate Operates Day to Day

Cloture: Why Things Rarely Pass the Senate

Talking Filibuster: The Rise of the Ultimate Delay Tactic

Holds and Dilatory Motions: The Other Delay Tactics

Reconciliation: The Procedure That Neuters Resistance

Blowing it All Up: The Threat of the Senate Nuclear Option

People Power

First Contact: Why Calling Your Representatives Matters

Taking to the Streets: Risks and Benefits of Mass Protest

Deal or No Deal: The Boycott Strategy Examined

A General Strike? Why This is a HUGE Organizational Undertaking

Got Time? Join a Local Organization to Help the Cause

Having Those Difficult Political Conversations With Those Who Oppose You

Now here’s the part where you can help. If you could answer any or all of the following questions, that would be immensely helpful to focus on what people are interested in.

Which potential topics above are of interest to you? Which ones are less interesting? I’m starting with the Boycott Strategy next week because of a planned boycott on 2/28. What topics should be after that? What topics can wait a while? Are there any topics that I am missing that you would like to see covered?

Thanks in advance for your help!
