What we can fix vs what we can't [1]

I’d like to speculate about a couple things, for what a subsequent government by the sane and responsible could do to restore the status quo ante Dampnut.</p>
First…. Some things like the scuttling of USAID and the wholesale terminations at many agencies, and the scrapping of research grants…. disastrous, yes. But, I think, not unfixable. What an idiot president can do, a sane one can undo. Funding can be restored, staff rehired. </p>
Mental note. I wonder if they’ve sacked enough government employees to make an uptick in new unemployment claims?</p>
What really worries me, though, is time. How much research on cures for cancer and Alzheimer’s is now going on the scrapheap because experiments and studies won’t be finished and will have to be restarted almost from scratch? </p>
In foreign policy, too— any void we leave is one that Russia, China, etc. are going to try to step into. One of USAID’s major missions was to counter Chinese efforts like the Belt and Road Initiative. You might as well have demobilized the Sixth Fleet in the middle of the Cold War and gave the Black Sea Fleet free rein over the Mediterranean. And then there’s Ukraine, which honestly gives me a migraine. </p>
Since there were at last count three posts about A Crackpot Orange quoting Napoleon (whether it’s a real quote or a line from a movie), one of which I posted, I’ll highlight one of the Shortest Corsican’s real maxims, which was “Ask me for anything but time.” If we’re six months from seeing Russia collapse now (my own extrapolation), pulling the rug out from under the people of Ukraine now….well it just doesn’t bear thinking about.
</p>Second…. since only an act of Congress can establish a government agency in the Executive Branch, assuming we can get a sane Congress and a sane Supreme Court, what would be the practical effect of the Musketeers’ actions being found to have no statutory basis?
