Just in from the San Francisco Sheriff's office:

Media statement February 14, 2025 Around 12pm today, three men dressed in DOGE shirts and MAGA hats entered various offices at San Francisco City Hall, demanding that employees turn over digital information related to alleged wasteful government spending and fraud. The employees refused their requests, and called San Francisco sheriff’s deputies. Deputies immediately responded, but the individuals had fled the building. The incident is currently under investigation; SFSO is reviewing surveillance and using other investigative tools to pursue leads. We do not believe the individuals requesting access to City files were representatives from DOGE.

And if they were, they would still have been faaaaaarr out of line. DOGE has zero even pretended jurisdiction outside the federal government.

Well done, city workers.

Be on the lookout, elsewhere!

California is one of 19 states that have filed suit against DOGE (KCRA-TV):

The case, filed in federal court in New York City, alleges the Trump administration allowed Musk's team access to the Treasury Department’s central payment system in violation of federal law. The payment system handles tax refunds, Social Security benefits, veterans' benefits and much more, sending out trillions of dollars every year while containing an expansive network of Americans' personal and financial data.

The city's sheriff, first elected in 2019, is city native Paul Miyamoto. He is the first sheriff of East Asian heritage to be elected in California. Family members of his, like many others of Japanese descent, were interned during World War II due to a generalized suspicion of disloyalty on the part of U.S. officials; two others served in the U.S. military, an alternative offered in some cases at the time. (Per Wikipedia.)

The home page of the San Francisco Sheriff's Department features, among other things, an explanation of its policy concerning immigration law enforcement.

..San Franciscans want a balanced approach- to welcome immigrants while ensuring that serious and violent criminals do not threaten the safety of our community. The federal government already knows the identity of every incarcerated person in our jails. If federal officials have a reason to arrest someone, they need a criminal warrant or court order.…

The page also headlines Black History Month.
