Rewrite the Constitution [1]

The Constitution was written by ordinary men of a very different time, that we treat as extraordinarily insightful. Our Constitution should be rewritten to correct it's many flaws and to reflect the times we live in as follows:

The President shall be elected by popular vote period

The pardon power shall be limited to authentic injustices or justifiable acts of clemency

The senate will be constituted as follows 1 Senator for each state with less than 1% of the population 2 Senators for each state with between 1% and 2% of the population 3 Senators for each state with greater 2% of the population

The Senate must confirm presidential appointments by a 2/3 vote whenever there are legitimate concerns with regard to character or qualifications. Character issues must be resolved by a thorough investigation. Each department or agency which is to be lead by an appointee will develop a minimum skill set for their leader

If the House impeaches the President, the Senate must hold a trial with the Chief Justice presiding, a prosecution and a defense. Evidence and witnesses will be evaluated and the president will be removed if 2/3 of the Senate agrees.The Vice President will act as President until a special election is held to choose a new President.

Supreme Court decisions must be unanimous when the Law is unequivocally clear under the following circumstances The Court is invalidating legislation enacted by the people's representatives The Court is reversing a decision that has prevailed and become established Law The Court is reversing a decision decided unanimously by a lower court

The Bill of Rights should be amended as follows: The Second Amendment should state that the right to vote shall not be infringed. All permanent residents of the United States will be eligible to vote without regard to gender, race or Indebtedness, including formerly incarcerated persons that have completed their sentences Corporations are not people and do not have the same rights. When a product or activity compromises the health or welfare of a community, the Corporation will be subject to sanctions if it is determined that a reasonable amount of due diligence would have revealed the harm The inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, include healthcare Freedom or religion includes freedom from religion

Career government employees must be protected from unreasonable termination and interference from other branches of the government. The Civil Service and the Military should be treated like separate professional branches that serve the people of the United States without regard to politics, religion or ideology. We are further along in human history and have access to resources that weren't available to the Founding Fathers.
