My half-orange and I went shopping so as usual, I took a photo of the eggs to amuse readers in the USA. Or is it annoy, not amuse? Possibly. Anyway, the cheapest eggs today were $1.79 per dozen. The eggs in the photo are all sorts beginning with ordinary and ending with large “organic” cage free “vegetarian”. A vegan friend almost choked when I mentioned vegetarian eggs. “But they are an ANIMAL product!” — I think it means the hens eat vegetarian food.
The Great Egg Crisis appears to be a uniquely American thing. I decided to check international egg prices and here are some (all prices converted to USD):
CANADA $3.28
FRANCE $2.99
GERMANY $2.5
UK $5.04 (Due to Brexit, I suppose. The UK is grim these days.)
I find myself wondering why the US doesn’t simply import some eggs. Oh wait — maybe it’s to do with the fact that other countries don’t wash and refrigerate eggs?
