Mao/Trump's Cultural Revolution Redux [1]

For a short period of time, China under Mao realized their conservative stridently anti-modernity, anti-Western, isolationist nation was falling behind the great powers. He allowed a "Hundred Flowers" relaxation of the Chinese Communist constraints on absolute suppression of intellectual exploration, ideas, and science to let a "Hundred Flowers" of intellectual, social, and scientific ideas bloom. And they did. And so also grew the blossoming of questions about the Leader and Maoism.
Thus came the vicious backlash where cadres of young people were exhorted and unleashed by Mao and empowered by their authoritarian government to expose, denounce, root out, and destroy those questioning elements within the bureaucratic Deep State. They were told it was their patriotic duty to the cult leader Chairman Mao to find and eliminate all impediments to his Maoism in all spheres including national and local government, the courts, judges, public prosecutions, policing and oversight agencies, schools, scientists, musicians, artists, academics, researchers, community organizations, neighborhoods, and their own families. And with zeal, young people did. Persecuting the Four Olds: Old ideas, old customs, old cultures, old habits. Destroying the suspected Enemies within the Deep State along with the remaining norms of a functioning nation, with absolute Maoist immunity, even if to "move fast, and break things" breaks the very thing you claim you want to "Make...Great, Again."
