Donald quotes Napoleon [1]

On Saturday, Trump posted on Truth Social, a variation of a quote that has been attributed to Napoleon Bonaparte.

"He who saves his Country does not violate any Law."

What could be the possible purpose of him posting this?

Is he trying to give himself some cover for all the laws he's been breaking since he took office?

It's not that dissimilar from Richard Nixon's quote from his interview with David Frost, where he said, "Well, when the President does it, that means that it's not illegal." You could add "by definition," to the end of that.

Nixon, of course, did not get away with breaking the law. He was going to be impeached, so he resigned from office. He could have actually been tried in criminal court, but before that could happen, President Gerald Ford, who had been Nixon's Vice-President, gave Nixon a pardon. He said it was for the good of the country, but a lot of people thought Nixon should have been prosecuted. That it set a bad precedent.

Ford had become Vice-President because Spiro Agnew, Nixon's first Vice-President, resigned from a corruption scandal of bribery, extortion and tax fraud. He pleaded no contest to one count of tax evasion, then resigned.

President Trump is in good, bad, company. He is the first convicted criminal to become President. He has set still another precedent.

Why would Trump put out this quote when all his official acts, no matter how criminal in nature, are immune from prosecution? The Supreme Court said he's got nothing to worry about. Even after he leaves office.

Has he been advised by his lawyers what could be construed as non-official acts? Would it matter?

He can always claim they are official, or cite executive privilege.

Donald Trump's brain has been examined by psychiatrists, psychologists, linguists, and criminologists. They think he's a child and talks like one. He's a bully. He commits more crimes because he has never been stopped by the law.

Is he telling us he plans on doing something beyond what he's already done?

We'll just have to wait till the next interview or news conference to find out if Trump puts himself on the scale with Napoleon Bonaparte instead of Washington and Lincoln.

Reporters are not going to let this slide.

Some other quotes attributed to Napoleon, Trump should consider:

"Never interrupt an enemy when he is making a mistake."

"Religion is what keeps the poor from murdering the rich."

"If you want a thing done well, do it youself."

"In politics stupidity is not a handicap."

Trump has now pinned the post to the top of his Truth Social account.
