Freddie jumped up onto the couch next to me and sat facing me, staring hard at my face. “Human,” he said, “we have to talk.”
“Oh, okay,” I said, marking my place in my library book and setting it aside. “Sounds serious.”
“It is. Very serious.”
“Alright, hit me.”
He cocked his head in confusion. “Why would I hit you?” he asked.
I shook my head. “Human nonsense,” I explained. “Tell me what’s on your mind.”
He took a deep breath and let it out slowly. “You need to leave,” he said.
A gentle reminder of how we do things: 🐱🐶🐦 Do not troll the diary. If you hate pootie diaries, leave now. No harm, no foul.
Please do share pics of your fur kids! If you have health/behavior issues with your pets, feel free to bring it to the community.
Pooties are cats; Woozles are dogs. Birds... are birds! Peeps are people.
Whatever happens in the outer blog STAYS in the outer blog. If you’re having “issues” with another Kossack, keep it “out there.” This is a place to relax and play; please treat it accordingly. There are some pics we never post: snakes, creepy crawlies, any and all photos that depict or encourage human cruelty toward animals. These are considered “out of bounds” and will not be tolerated. If we alert you to it, please remember that we do have phobic peeps who react strongly to them. If you keep posting banned pics...well then...the Tigress will have to take matters in hand. Or, paw.
That was not what I expected him to say. “What?”
“You keep not leaving. You’ve ruined the routine,” he explained.
“Oooooh!” I said, understanding finally. “Yes, I know. I’m on vacation and I decided to spend it with you.”
“Vacation?”
“I took a week off work. To rest and de-stress. And to spend time with you,” I added, reaching out to scratch the side of his neck like he liked.
He shook me off. “You did this on purpose?”
“Wasn’t it nice that I was home when it rained all day? So you could sleep on my lap and not be scared?” I asked, petting the fur on his back in long, gentle strokes.
He closed his eyes. “That was pretty good,” he allowed.
“We’ve watched movies together, and you got to watch me deep clean the kitchen,” I said, remembering him following me around with a smile.
“You did some interesting things,” he agreed. “I didn’t like the spray bottle,” he told me, opening his eyes to glare at me.
“No, you didn’t. But I didn’t squirt you with it, so it was fine.”
He heaved a deep sigh that suggested he didn’t agree.
“How long does this thing last?” he demanded.
“My vacation?”
“Yeah.”
“A week,” I said. “Just a week then we go back to normal.”
He looked at me for a long moment. “I don’t know what a week is.”
“Four more sleeps,” I told him.
He frowned at me.
“Human sleeps. Where I sleep all night.”
His frown deepened. “You really shouldn’t do that. It’s not safe.”
I rolled my eyes. “Four sunrises, then. I know you’re active at sunrise.”
“That’s the most awake time,” he agreed.
"The point is that things will go back to normal soon. I’ll be very sad to have to leave you during the day, but the routine will be there again.” I shook my finger at him. “Don’t go getting accustomed to me being home. This is a temporary routine.”
He wrinkled his nose at me. “I like it, but also I’m getting tired of it. A cat needs alone time sometimes.”
I rubbed the fur between his ears. “I understand that completely.”
"But I wouldn’t mind sleeping on your lap right now,” he added, slyly.
I chuckled and reached down the side of the couch to extend the foot rest. After that, I fluffed out the blanket make sure he had a nice, soft spot.
He climbed over my thigh and made himself comfortable like he always did, stretched out between my legs with his head on my ankle.
"Isn’t this nice?” I asked, idly playing with the tip of his tail.
“Don’t touch my tail,” he said, eyes closed.
I rolled my eyes, but dropped his tail. “Unauthorized tail touching aside, don’t you like spending the day like this?”
“It’s not bad,” he said. “But I like the routine.”
I puffed up my cheeks and blew out a breath. “Routine is nice,” I agreed. “I’ll be sad when I have to go back to work, though.”
“Someone has to hunt,” he said.
“Yeah, and I guess that’s me.”
A soft snore told me he was done talking about it for now.
Freddie woke up at once as he always did, and stood, arching his back in a stretch that made me truly jealous.
“Where are you going?” I cried, as he leapt over my leg and off of the recliner.
He ignored me and left the room. “Rude,” I muttered, picking up my book again. I heard the glug glug of his water dispenser and knew he was drinking.
A few minutes later I looked over the top of my book and made eye contact with him, sitting on the floor and staring up at me. “You’re still here?” he demanded.
Happy Caturday, Peeps! It’s true, I took a week off work to do very little. We cleaned, we watched movies, we went to Costco. We went to the movies and had an entertaining afternoon with the new Marvel movie. I go back on Tuesday and I’ll be well rested, but missing Freddie.
