The Republican Party’s Valentine to Hate [1]

On this day which celebrates love, it’s worth noting that we are currently being “governed” by people who are characterized and defined by hate. Hate for people who are different from them. Hate for people who look different than them. Hate for people who love different than them. Hate for people who pray different than them. Hate for immigrants hate for Jews. Hate for Muslims. Hate for gays. Hate for trans kids. Hate for African Americans. Hate for federal government employees. Hate for expertise and education. Hate for liberals. Hate for Democrats.
Oh, these unamerican, treasonous, and lawless, small, small pathetic people are also characterized by many other things — pettiness, grievances — the endless grievances — victimization complexes, vindictiveness, smallmindedness, breathtaking shortsightedness, greed, corruption. contempt for the rule of law, serial dishonesty, lack of empathy, cruelty, more than a little dose of not subtle racism, hypocrisy, cowardice, lack of patriotism, selfishness and more. But at their core, they are defined by their hatred.
Never forget that. I know I won’t.
