"They're being told if you vote against one Trump nominee, you will be primaried".
So said Senator Brain Schatz (D-HI), in the context of the RFK, Jr abomination nomination to head the Department of Health and Human Services, about his Republican “colleagues.”
And my response to that is… so what?
As if that makes their endorsement of grotesquely unqualified, unfit, and morally and ethically bankrupt treasonous sycophants or rabid, dangerous conspiracy nuts for some of the most important and powerful jobs in our government excusable or at least understandable?
NO. JUST NO.
To be clear, Senator Schatz has been one of the better Democrats in (finally) pushing back against the treasonous GOP. He was the first Democratic Senator to announce he would place a hold on some of the administration;s nominees — in this case, on all of the Trump Adminsitration’s diplomatic nominees in the wake of its illegal attempt to destroy USAID.
But especially during a time when many Democrats are still — STILL! — reluctant / unwilling to do everything in their power (indeed, far from it) to delay, obstruct, block, and create as much havoc as they possibly can for this Administration and its treasonous supporters, enablers, and apologists in Congress,
So very, very disheartening. I’m really, really tired of Democrats referring to their “friends on the other side of the aisle” as if this all of this stuff are just minor spats between pals…. a jovial “we agree to disagree” moment on repeat.
Schatz understands “the pressure that some of my colleagues are facing,” noting the threat of primaries. And he suggests that a hypothetical Republican vote against a Trump nominee — which he knows isn’t coming — would be an act of courage:
“And I understand what I have learned over the last ten days is if Republicans are going to display courage, it's not going to be on the cabinet. There are a few that have voted, you know, not with their party, but for the most part, like they're in line, and Trump is going to get his cabinet.”
No. A vote against any of the profoundly warped, depraved, unqualified and unfit nominees for the most powerful positions in government — yes, even in the face of a a big, bad primary threat — would not be an act of courage, It would simply be an act of the most basic integrity, And self-respect. And the most minimal of patriotism. And of respect for the institutions they allegedly acre about. Nothing more. Nothing particularly difficult. Just taking their oaths of office and their jobs seriously.
But in the face of the GOP”s inability to pass even that most simplest of tests — to clear even the lowest of bars — Democrats need to stop with the niceties and call out their Republican colleagues for exactly what they are: Cowards. Spineless. Craven. Unpatriotic. Unamerican. Guilty of dereliction of duty. Morally bankrupt in their own right. Pathetic. Impotent. Weak. Useless, Over and over again — in every interview, every press availability.”
None of this “they’re falling in line,” as Schatz referenced, as if that’s to be expected … as if they’re just being obedient little puppies who have no agency in the matter.
If you haven’t noticed, they are aiding and abetting the illegal dismantling of the federal government youn profess to care about, and hurting — really hurting tens of thousands of families around teh country — and world — in the process.
These pathetic, chickenshit cowards who don’t have the balls to stand up to a twice-impeached convicted felon, adjudicated rapist, coup leader, and lawless and brazenly corrupt pathological liar and racist even once are NOT your friends. Your pals. Your buds.
Start acting like it.
