30 Years of US Administrations and Their Betrayals of Ukraine
At least they're consistent, whether D or R…
An abbreviated timeline of previous actions ( and inactions ) regarding Ukraine that America has taken over the past 30 years which have contributed to where things stand today.
Administration: Clinton, 1991 - 1992
Together with the UK and ruzzia*, Clinton coerced Ukraine into the terms of the heinous Budapest Memorandum, forcing Ukraine to relinquish her nuclear weapons in exchange for worthless "security guarantees."
Consequences: Putin never would have invaded Crimea in 2014 or initiated the 2022 full invasion if Ukraine had retained nuclear weaponry.
Administration: GW Bush, aka "Dumbya", 2000 - 2008
Stated that he "looked into ( Putin's ) soul" and therefore "understood him". In general, avoided "provoking" the Kremlin lunatic.
Consequences: Are you kidding ? Exactly what would be expected - Putin sees US weakness and commits further aggression against neighboring nations.
Administration: Obama 1 and 2 2014
For fear of provoking ruzzia*, America - and the world - kept silent as Putin seized Crimea. Not completely silent - stern words of rebuke were uttered...big effing deal. "Actions speak louder than words". In his case, even the words were timid.
Consequences: Putin naturally emboldened by lack of meaningful reaction; sees West as cowardly, further encouraging more aggressive actions in Donetsk / Luhansk, as well as battling other nations such as Georgia.
Administration: Trump 1, 2016 - 2020
Putin's hackers and Prighozin's troll factory spread online disinformation about Hillary Clinton to American voters. The efforts were wildly successful, even beyond what Putin had envisioned. He got his Useful Idiot / American Lapdog.
Later, 45 attempted to blackmail President Zelenskyy into finding some non-existent dirt on the Biden's, leading to this criminal president's first impeachment.
Consequences: In 2016, elated over his successful disinformation efforts to elect his Useful American Idiot, Putin began construction of the accursed Kerch bridge, completed in May 2018.
Also, pro-ruzzian* traitors in Donetsk shot down a Dutch airliner over Ukraine and continued their violent rebellion. Politicians / journalists / citizens worldwide expressed alarm at Trump / Putin's chummy relationship.
Administration: Biden, 2021 - 2024
A constant thread: sent just enough weaponry to Ukraine to keep the country from complete occupation but not nearly enough to win. Terrified of crossing Putin's "red lines", which Ukraine herself has done repeatedly on her own.
Biden's most cowardly action: giving Ukraine necessary weapons but forbidding their use on ruzzian* soil. NO country has ever won a war without taking the fight to the enemy.
Consequences: Stalemate on the battlefield, now a war of attrition. Had Ukraine received requested weaponry on time and to scale, and given the go-ahead to strike the enemy on their own turf, it would be over, with Ukraine victorious.
Trump in exile, 2021 - 2024
Took without authorization classified documents to Mar-A-Lago, then possibly sold / gave away some away to...who knows. Consistently praised his love-interest in the Kremlin; cowed the craven GOP Congress to withhold needed weaponry to Ukraine.
Administration: Trump 2, 2025...so far:
Keeping the world guessing as to whether he would negotiate fairly on Ukraine's behalf. Good fake-out, but currently it appears that he's back to being Putin's pet - and now, Musk's as well. Froze all foreign aid.
Consequences: Probably not positive for beleaguered Ukraine.
* Note: We Ukrainians currently spell the aggressor's name as "ruzzia" for two reasons:
A. for their crimes, their nation does not deserve capitalization, and
B. because - at least in the early days of the invasion - they marked their tanks with a large white capital "Z".
