An open letter to all spineless Republican Senators: since you don't care when Donald Trump violates the law to enrich himself and his friends, let us remind you that your side will not stay in power forever. No side ever does.
In 2028, I predict the Democratic Party will nominate Alexandria O'Casio Cortez for President and that she'll win the election.
On her first day, with her new found powers President O'Casio Cortez will fire the entire Federal Reserve Board and appoint herself chair of the Federal Reserve.
On her second day, President O'Casio Cortez will by executive fiat establish the Department of Wokeness and hire a couple college hackers to identify government employees with white supremacist and Christian nationalist tattoos and fire them.
On her third day in office, President O'Casio Cortez will recess appoint former Senator Elizabeth Warren to be Secretary of the Treasury and issue an executive order transferring all student loans from the abolished Department of Education to the Department of the Treasury. Secretary Warren will then promptly cancel all student loans. Republicans will run to a court in Texas to get an injunction stopping the forgiveness, but the response of the O'Casio Cortez administration will be "too late, we already did it."
On her fourth day in office, President O'Casio Cortez will establish 97% tariffs on all luxury goods valued above $1 million being imported into the United States and a 99% tariff on all transfers of foreign cryptocurrency into the United States.
On her fifth day in office, President O'Casio Cortez will fire all Republican members of the Security and Exchange Commission and issue an executive order requiring the Securities and Exchange Commission to regulate cryptocurrency as a security.
On her sixth day in office, President O'Casio Cortez will order newly confirmed Attorney General Chris Murphy to investigate pump and dump schemes in the cryptocurrency markets and other market manipulation.
And on her seventh day in office, the Justice Department will announce it has filed corruption charges against Donald Trump and Elon Musk related to the award of a $400 million contract to Tesla.
And that's just the first week folks. What you're doing or not doing now sets a precedent for the future. And you won't always like the outcomes if you continue to let Trump get away with it. Think it can't happen here? Go back to 2010 and say Donald Trump will dominate American politics for 15 years. You would've been laughed at.
(President AOC probably wouldn't do half of these things because she, unlike Trump and Musk, actually has read the Constitution, believes in it and has ethics, but my point stands).
