The Hypocrisy Drains Me [1]

Of Trump’s 60+ executive orders, one in particular stands out to me: “RESTORING FREEDOM OF SPEECH AND ENDING FEDERAL CENSORSHIP.”

The irony is glaring. This seemingly democracy-protecting order comes from an administration that has already launched an aggressive attack on free speech just one month into its tenure. Most recently, the Associated Press (AP) was barred from White House events for refusing to comply with the administration’s preferred naming conventions for the Gulf of Mexico.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt defended the administration’s decision, stating:

“If we feel there are lies being pushed by outlets in this room, we are going to hold those lies accountable.”

And my only response to that is: What the fuck are you talking about?

The Trump administration has been a mass producer of lies and propaganda since day one of Trump’s first campaign. What Leavitt meant to say was: “If we feel anyone is standing up to our power, we will take them down.” Not exactly the ideals of a democratic republic.

But the crackdown on free expression isn’t stopping with the press. The administration has also begun systematically purging medical documents and studies that it deems too aligned with DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) policies. This isn’t just bureaucratic meddling—it’s the deliberate erasure of potentially life-saving information. Research containing any terminology related to transgender individuals has been targeted for deletion, a move that medical professionals warn will result in the loss of serious and relevant medical research and data.

Donald Trump will wield the power of the executive order to its fullest extent this term. Many of his orders may carry deceptively positive messaging, but don’t be fooled. There is no good intention. There is no love for America. There is only greed and insecurity.

To put it as plainly as possible: the hypocrisies and contradictions of this presidency are both mentally draining and morally incomprehensible. Expect nothing but misinformation.

“Trust, but verify.” — Ronald Reagan
