I joined a chapter of the organization Indivisible. I went to my first meeting last week. We quickly overran the room and were guided into the sanctuary. There were 78 attendees in a small church. I was told they’d usually had about 15 people there, tops.

We divided into five groups to discuss different issues facing Americans.

They were:

Environmental. Education. Women’s rights and bodily autonomy, gun regulations and safety, and Emergencies and catastrophes, or some such title. I thought it also important to have a group on immigration. Maybe soon. Each group presented its findings to the whole group.

My group, Environmental, formed a subcommittee of about a dozen people. For now, we are just to call senators and representatives and hound them about the climate and pollution. We’re also tapped to visit their local offices, in pairs or more.

I’ve invited about a dozen people to join Indivisible. I think we just might get something done, because organization is what lack and what we need right now.

Are you a member? What has been your experience with the organization? Can you give us any ideas that came from your group?
