Democratic Normalization of Trump [1]

The weak Democratic leadership in the House and Senate is doing next to nothing to stop Trump and his authoritarian, kleptocratic agenda. Trump is not normal. His policies are not normal. His grotesque, dangerous nominees are not normal.
Yet all too many Democrats are normalizing Trump, by treating what he and Musk are doing to the country as normal, as business as usual. In the face of Trump’s assault on our most basic liberties, some Democrats still blather about “bipartisanship”—with fascists..
What does this do? It provides “bipartisan” cover for Trump. It enables him.
In the face of this, some of the more astute political voices of reason, such as Keith Olbermann and Rick Wilson, have called for congressional Democrats to cease cooperating with Republicans in any way shape or form, to do everything they can to stop, or at least impede, Trump and his goose-stepping minions.
One way we can influence the congressional Democrats to do that is to call them and write to them.
Wilson stated on a recent podcast that physical letters have far more impact on House members and senators than e-mails, and that physical letters “freak them out.”
I think he’s right. So I ditched my e-mailing habit and wrote the following letter to my state’s senators (Gallego and Kelly) , which I sent yesterday.

Dear Senator Gallego:
Donald Trump has loosed Elon Musk’s authoritarian incels upon the government’s most vital agencies, where they’ve already caused god knows how much damage in data breaches. Not incidentally, in doing that they’re endangering my, and every other retired person’s, Social Security and Medicare benefits.
Worse, they’re now subjecting potential FBI recruits to loyalty-test questions designed to weed out anyone who won’t kowtow to the sadistic orange felon. They’re trying to turn the FBI into Trump’s secret police. To call this UnAmerican is gross understatement.
Just as bad, J.D. Vance is now asserting that Trump is not bound by judicial rulings—and the Trump cultists will likely push that insane assertion relentlessly until there’s a test case before their packed Supreme Court.
They’re also trying to destroy reproductive rights and the right to free speech.
All of this is enraging and disgusting.
Please stop providing the Republican goose-steppers with “bipartisan”cover. Please make them own their monstrous agenda and the inevitable results of that agenda.
Please loudly denounce the horrors Trump and his toadies are imposing on us. Please block every single one of Trump’s nominees. Please filibuster. Please vote no on every single piece of legislation they sponsor.
Please do everything in your power to stop Trump and his shameless, spineless minions dead in their tracks.
That might not stop Trump and company; but it would slow them down. Continuing to provide them with “bipartisan” cover will do nothing but enable them.
Please do your best to stop them.
