Eo14149: Restoring Freedom of Speech and Ending Federal Censorship
The core issue is:
In EO14149 47 claims “the previous administration trampled free speech rights by censoring Americans' speech on online platforms, often by exerting substantial coercive pressure on third parties, such as social media companies, to moderate, deplatform, or otherwise suppress speech that the Federal Government did not approve,”
Reason: because it was illegal.
“Under the guise of combatting “misinformation,” “disinformation,” and “malinformation,” the Federal Government infringed on the constitutionally protected speech rights of American citizens across the United States in a manner that advanced the Government's preferred narrative about significant matters of public debate”
not debate. 45 lost the 2020 election
47’s Proposed action?
“The Attorney General, in consultation with the heads of executive departments and agencies, shall investigate ... and prepare a report ... with recommendations for... remedial actions...”
Translation: “We want to do election fraud. AG, prepare a blacklist. Get revenge. I am not a crook.”
It looks like they want to determine what is speech. Subsequent 2025 EOs limit speech (especially with regards to DEI) and advance “the Government's preferred narrative about significant matters of public debate.” I don’t know how this is going to work.
