The nemesis of liberals -- the States Rights 10th Amendment -- may be what we need to save democracy [1]

I have been following this page for years, but only recently began commenting.
I’m not ready to publish a story on this topic, and I would prefer to hand it off to someone with research skills who could do a better job, so this is an outline.
Much is being said that our democracy will come to an end whenever Trump chooses to ignore court orders and the US Marshals — which could be a few days from now.
This was the infamous video last week on Bulwark which was hosted by George Conway and Sarah Longwell, which scared the living daylights out of many of us.
But let’s step back a minute. The two most often cited countries which went from democracy to fascism are Germany in 1933, and Hungary about 10 years ago. And Brazil (also a federal republic), back and forth, in this decade.
I know that Germany is a federated republic of states and very likely was in 1933 also, but Hungary (and most other fascist states around the world) are not.
The only power in most fascist countries is in the centralized bureaucracy. The United States does not have a completely centralized bureaucracy.
Trump can commandeer the federal bureaucracy by executive order (and by ignoring court orders), but the United States is comprised of 50 separate state governments which can block some of his initiatives.
We are already seeing this with opposition to mass deportations. Since Congress is virtually useless, our citizen power to resist needs to come from the states, and from courageous mayors and governors.
This is not the end of our democracy. The 10th amendment has provided us with a system of governments which can challenge the federal government.
I’m just trying to be useful. I wish someone would develop this idea. Thanks!
