New Polling Suggests Cruelty Is More Acceptable [1]

I have been writing on politics and current events for 20+ years. I can tell you what Trump’s doing has been a right wing political goal since the new deal was enacted. They just couldn’t get enough public support to do it. This new poll tells me this obstacle has gone away for now and tolerance for cruelty has risen.

Historians and individuals who have been in and around government sounded the warning prior to the election. Many people like me have done our part as well. So the information is out there.
He told us how he was going to harm people. The most vulnerable people on the planet are migrants who are fleeing starvation and persecution. Offering sanctuary under these circumstances was a pillar of America’s charter as a country once upon a time.
It looks like enough Americas are willing to take an authoritarian style government for a test ride and with it the cruelty that will follow.
You may never be directly touched by the suffering that will ensue. The end of USAID for example will be a death sentence for many. It also makes Americans less secure.
Soft power is an important component in diplomacy. China and Russian influence will probably fill the vacuum created by our absence.
I have never had a sense of national pride. I enjoy living in America however. Its a good place to be regardless of the politics for people like me. I’ve had a good life under every administration because I’m a white male born into an upper middle class family. The world’s assets were always accessible to me. I can ride out the chaos will little disruption to my daily life. I have a choice about how I want to respond however. Others, people who I never pass through their orbits are not going to do well in this new government. I fear for them. I know what’s coming.
