Rick Wilson's confession and our "techno-feudalist serfdom" [1]

Rick Wilson (born November 21, 1963) is an American political strategist, media consultant, and author based in Florida . A former member of the Republican Party, now a Never Trumper conservative. He has produced televised political commercials for governors, US senators and candidates for same, Supe PACs and some corporations.

He was part of George H. W. Bush’s campaign.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the following as it is something I have never forgiven him for:

Wilson played a significant role in the 2002 United States Senate election in Georgia, in which Sucks Be Shameless * Saxby Chambliss was facing Democratic Party Senator Max Cleland, a disabled Vietnam veteran and recipient of the Silver Star. Wilson helped create an ad that criticized Cleland, while also tying him to Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein. The ad appeared to question Cleland's patriotism. In an interview with HuffPost, Wilson stated that he thought that "DHS [Department of Homeland Security] was on the front line against Osama bin Laden". As Wilson reflected in 2016, "The Cleland ad was powerful because it went to his strengths [...] Everyone assumed Cleland was immune to critiques on national security issues. [...] they didn't calculate that I have no moral center when it comes to political ads, and I will destroy the innocent and the guilty". Following Cleland's death in 2021, Wilson received criticism from journalists such as Glenn Greenwald and Charlie Pierce.

*= what I call him

But I decided to listen to him, along with other Never Trump conservatives to see how the other side thinks — and it’s a damn site safer for my tv, computer monitor, cell phone than watching FoxNews, OANN, NewsMax, etc. [Safer? Yeah I don’t want to throw anything at them or throw them]

But now when we are facing the almost near certainty that Trump will not obey the law or the courts (something I have argued he wouldn’t do or respect if he got a second term) and what that means, Rick, who is now with the Lincoln Project, posted this video.

He makes many good points, including going to war for Donald Trump’s real estate empire. He’s painted an even more dystopian Trump future than I have heard from liberals. (It’s started at 6:30)

“We gave up the free market a long fucking time ago, because lobbyists funded our campaigns. That’s a Republican confession. Okay?. We sold ourselves to the highest bidders. And right now, you guys have sold yourselves cheap to the highest bidders.” “You’re not in a free market anymore. You’re in a techno-feudalist serfdom. You’re going to get fucked economically, by Donald Trump, and Peter Theil, and Elon Musk, and the rest of these guys. Because they truly believe that everyone in America that’s not like them, is easily replaceable by AI in the next 2 to 4 years.” ”They really believe that the serf class is ready for a monarchy. That they are the barons and the dukes of this great monarchy to come. And Trump is the puppet king for the moment.” “You’re not allow to be surprised though, when you lose your freedoms, and your liberties, and your rights, and your hopes, and your economic future.” “You’re not allow to be surprised, by the way, 2nd amendment guys, you’re not allow to be . . . and I am one, you’re not allowed to be surprised when Trump says, ‘Well we can’t allow those dirty peasants having their own firearms any more. That’s a risk to the majesty and power of the government. ‘’ — Rick Wilson

Listen to the whole thing. You may feel I buried the lead.
