Boots on the Ground in the U.S. Population Center [1]

The U.S. Census population center passed just North of here. In the Middle of America, I am! There aren't many of us out here. The roads suck, the jobs suck, but hey! You know what?
The Ozarks is in the middle, balanced equally on the national axis. Equal part Cascades Northwest and Swampy Southeast. Wooded Northeast and Desert Southwest. We are you. You is us.
How did we get here? Well, the French pronounced it Ozarks because of the bow wood, a nod towards the Osage Orange, aka Hedgeapple. "Of the arc," as I recall my imaginary French education. We got that good bow wood, yes Sir. For shooting arrows, you see?
Northerners pass through on their way down South, and Westerners pass through on their way back East. One time, a couple of people from Delaware moved next door and tried to make a go at retirement. They lasted about a year and a half, then high-tailed it back to Delaware.
The middle of America ain't for everyone but, for those who are willing, it's an interesting space to occupy. These are interesting times, yes Sir.
