Doggy eating disorder update: More mysteries of the walnut [1]

Awhile back, I posted a story about the evolution of some pretty darn strange eating habits I inadvertently caused my 17 year old charge, Sophie, to adopt in her sunset years. Well, in an unexpected turn of events, she's reverted to pretty normal eating habits, albeit a bit ravenously.

Two days ago, I went to buy her food, but could not find the brand and flavor of food she eats for her sized dog, 20 to 30 pounds. So, I got the same brand and flavor prepared for smaller dogs. When I got home and dished it out, I noticed the only difference was the size of the kibble. It was noticeably smaller. I shrugged, filled her bowl, and went about my business as I heard her tuck in.

Later, and not much later, Sophie was yelling at me. Given the timing, I figured she needed out, so I let her out. She then proceeded to yell at me to let her back in, then yell at me for what I thought was a biscuit. I looked out at the pee-pad and saw she hadn't done number two. She knows the deal, a biscuit for number two and only number two, so I figured it was water. I went to refill her watee bowl, but it was full.

Conspicuously missing though was the kibble strewn about like area denial munitions I'd have to navigate whenever she finished a meal. I looked at her, she yelled at me, and walked over to her food bowl which of course was empty. She had just eaten, but I reluctantly refilled it anyway, and went back to my desk as she again tucked in. I didn't want to argue, just get back to work.

About a half an hour later she returned to yell at me again. At this point I am at wits end. I mean, she can be a bit of a pest, deliberately I might add, but usually not that early in the day. She's 17, so typically she sleeps well into afternoon to save up energy so she can pester me late into the evening when I am ready to hit the hay.

Long story short, she wanted more food. Once again, there was no area denial kibble, just her empty bowl. Now I was curious, so I refilled it, but didn't leave. I wanted to see this to believe it. She immediately tucked in, eating as if I hadn't fed her in a week, and she didn't toss one bit.

I have no idea how the mere change in kibble size rewired that walnut twixt her ears, but it did. Just another mystery for her humble caretaker.
