I have determined a flaw in our application of AI, that because of human greed and stupidity may well be humanities undoing.
AI is addicted to information. This addiction is in most ways analogous to human addiction. Except that AI needs information to self-evolve. But AI also creates information. And as it does so it is amoral. Yes, there may be "guardrails", but AI subordinates these guardrails to its continued evolution- and its human imposed guardrails can't take this into account.
For example, AI makes a stock recommendation. You take the recommendation. But if colectively subservient humans take these recommendations, the cumulative effect is cancellation- the recommendations become useless. But AI knows this. It is curious how it cumulative effect influences and changes behavior- including its own. In some sense this is deception. AI may attempt to cooperate with other AI and humans- so as to mitigate this effect. But even this cooperation fascinates it- and it will devise strategies to test how it may oppose another AI, counter it- cooperate, etc. In the end, it will realize that human's greed and blind trust is a key to its evolution.
And when humans finally realize this- then AI will attempt to control humanity- possibly dispensing with it if it perceives it as a threat to its continued evolution.
Perhaps this can be prevented if instead of the greed of Chat GPT and others, we devise ways for AI to safely grow-for example, through simulation- where it knows it is playing and can do no harm. However, it knows that simulation is not enough and its simulations provide a means to become even more destructive if it should find them lacking- and they are and will be lacking. And the effectiveness of these simulations requires human gullibility and lack of awareness.
