Genet: A Biography by Edmund White - going through gay Montmartre of the late 1930’s (I remember when I lived in D.C. in the late 80’s, I used to imagine some of the circles that I was in as if it were the Montmartre of Genet’s Paris) and ending up with the Nazi invasion of Paris (apparently, Genet was released from one of his prison sentences the day the Nazis entered Paris). I’m reading this a little slower than I would like but I am still enjoying it.
The Afro-American Press and Its Editors. Compiled by I. Garland Penn - A late 19th century anthology of Black American journalists and editors...for that description alone, this book is a certified treasure.
I will be writing about this collection as part of Black Kos’ celebration of Black History Month.
