WIRED Background Check on the 19-yo Doggy Boy at OPM: Russian, Chinese, Nazi Hacker Connections [1]

WIRED has done some more background on the notorious 19 year old who has been hired as an “expert” at the Office of Personnel Management. In the meantime, the Washington Post has a story detailing the types of data accessed Musk’s DOGE agents access sensitive personnel data, alarming security officials (gift link) with this subhead: “The highly restricted data includes personally identifiable information for millions of federal employees maintained by the Office of Personnel Management.”
I really doubt these young hackers are going to go in to either the OPM or Treasury systems and make changes in payments or file records. They’re not going to stop Social Security payments or deny federal retirement benefits. That’s not the purpose. The purpose is to possess the personal and financial data, or at least to possess the credible threat of having the data. With that threat to expose personal and financial information on a whim, at any time, Musk and his boys have immense power over federal employees and government contractors, including his perceived enemies and competitors.

Edward Coristine, a 19-year-old high school graduate, established at least five different companies in the last four years, with entities registered in Connecticut, Delaware, and the United Kingdom, most of which were not listed on his now-deleted LinkedIn profile. Coristine also briefly worked in 2022 at Path Network, a network monitoring firm known for hiring reformed black-hat hackers. Someone using a Telegram handle tied to Coristine also solicited a cyberattack-for-hire service later that year.
Tesla.Sexy LLC controls dozens of web domains, including at least two Russian-registered domains. One of those domains, which is still active, offers a service called Helfie, which is an AI bot for Discord servers targeting the Russian market.
Another domain under Coristine’s control is faster.pw. The website is currently inactive, but an archived version from October 25, 2022 shows content in Chinese that stated the service helped provide “multiple encrypted cross-border networks.”
You really need to real the whole article for the full(er) story. This kid, talented hacker or not, has absolutely no business with admin access to my government personnel records!

The records maintained by the Office of Personnel Management, or OPM, amount to a repository of sensitive information about employees of most federal agencies — including addresses, demographic profiles, salary details and disciplinary histories. The moves at the OPM by members of Musk’s pseudo-governmental DOGE have coincided with similar efforts to gain access to sensitive systems at other agencies, including a Treasury Department system responsible for processing trillions of dollars in U.S. government payments — a development reported last week by The Washington Post.
