Thursday GNR: Catch-47 [1]
['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.']
Date: 2025-02-06
Catch-22 famously said, “We have a perfect right to do anything you can’t stop us from doing.” The current version says that they have the right to do all of this and far more even if we do stop them in the streets, in the courts, wherever. Of course—because we are eevul lying Soshulists out to take away their deserved privilege and enslave them or worse, and they are the purest of the pure in their tiny little minds.
I will not attempt to catalog this meshugas. Others are doing that, and also cataloging the lawsuits against it and other major actions. I will instead give you other actual Gud Nuz. Then we will mine our usual sources as usual, and study how to resist effectively.
Can you please post this at the top of the GNR on Wednesday mornings? From the people who brought you the Women’s March (you can sign up for action emails at womensmarch.com, they send new emails about once a day or less): A MINUTE OF SILENCE: Tomorrow, We Pause. We Grieve. We Stay in Motion. We Resist. So much harm is being done—to our communities, our democracy, and people across the globe. We cannot look away. That’s why, starting this Wednesday, we’re joining our friends at Choose Democracy for Minute for US—a weekly moment of silence to honor those suffering under this administration and the destruction it’s causing. Every Wednesday at 12:53 PM, we take a minute to reflect, meditate, or simply bear witness. Do this with friends, family, co-workers, or alone—however makes sense for you. Why 12:53 PM? That’s the moment January 6th rioters first crossed the barricades—and when the world’s three richest men sat at Trump’s inauguration. This action is about recognizing where we are and refusing to be numb to it. Yes. Thank you, ElenaCarlena. Not at the tippy top, but at least at the bottom of the top. Are we good?
Which is the worst news of this week?
I could turn this into a poll, but I won’t. Some contenders are
Turning the keys to Treasury over to the Techbros. We have sued. Treasury has walked it back.
Trump, after meeting with Netanyahu at the White House, announcing that it is now US policy to throw 1.8 million citizens out of Gaza, and make it a US possession, specifically to turn the whole Strip into beachfront property and add it to the Trump collection, including Greenland, Canada, and the Panama Canal. The legal briefs for ethnic cleansing, war crimes, and crimes against humanity write themselves.
Trying to out and fire everyone at the FBI who had anything to do with investigating J6, and bringing charges against more than 1,500 honest tourists who were then convicted, or in some cases confessed. They have all been pardoned, and some have gone back to their criminal ways. Top officials at the FBI, put there by Trump himself, have said “Nuh- Uh !”, and agents are suing.
!”, and agents are suing. Trying to “feed USAID to the wood chipper”, including billions of dollars in purchases from farms, and the Ebola team that was in the middle of handling an outbreak in Uganda. See you in several courts ASAP.
Your nomination in a comment.
Trump going to the Super Bowl, and the NFL removing the End Racism sign on the field for the occasion, doesn’t qualify for any such list. But feel free to watch Puppy Bowl XXI instead, or to turn on the Superb Owl, maybe at halftime, just to boo.
You called?
What is the Gud Gnuz?
Unnumbered lawsuits, already resulting in immediate injunctions, to be followed by evidentiary hearings where actual facts will be demanded.
The Senate Democrats seem to be ready to declare war, specifically to deny all motions for unanimous consent, most notably all administration cabinet appointments and any others requiring Senate confirmation. That could mean that that lying Pam Bondi as incoming (Duck!) AG would be the last successful appointee for the duration. Or not. Sen. Brian Schatz (D-HI) has led 37 D Senators in an all-nighter against Russell Vought’s nomination to lead OMB, but he will still get a vote today.
But as Rachel Maddow always says,
Don’t watch what they say. Watch what they do.
Rachel had wonderful A and B blocks on Tuesday, on the mind-blowing stupidity of the MAGA movement in general and the administration in particular, repeating her point from Monday that pushback is in fact pushing them to undo the worst of their pronouncements and edicts. She started with record-breaking sprinter Tyson Gay, turned into Tyson Homosexual by the filters on the bogus OneNewsNow.com “news” site, sponsored by the infamous American Family Association. [no links to such paskudnyakery from me]
The anti-DEI filters have caught numerous instances of “inclusion”, such as including documents in submissions to government agencies. Then there are the equity markets. She was, as usual, having Too Much Fun at MAGA expense, and I heartily recommend that you go over and enjoy it all with her. They are not all-powerful. We can beat them back. The administration, by its own admission, has had to put back dozens of Web pages caught in their own webs of deceit and malfeasance, and thus hoist with their own petards.
Renewable Energy continues to be cheaper and much healthier than Fossil Foolishness. Try telling Republicans not in the oil patch not to care about Real Money TM , and see how far you get. Even the WSJ, The Economist, and The Financial Times, no matter how far off the rails their opinion columns might be, generally have to use actual numbers in actual financial reporting.
But occasionally, even the editors have to acknowledge reality, as in these from the WSJ on the Trump tariffs.
