Reporting on the protest outside the offices of Schumer and Gillibrand in Syracuse NY.

After parking my car, on a bright sunny February 5th, I met a local student who saw my signs and asked me what was going on. He had just heard that there was a protest. We walked together to the event at the James M. Hanley Federal Building.

I joined over 250 protesters outdoors at the senators’ offices in 19 degrees F, windchill making it feel colder. The young man took my picture and proceeded to take pictures of the event.

After warming up the crowd by chanting slogans taken from our signs, the protest began with a greeting by a member of the Onondaga nation welcoming people to their land in Onondaga County and surrounding counties including Cortland, Oswego, St. Lawrence, Cayuga, Oneida and Madison.

Speakers including local legislators, activist leaders, educators and a local singer/songwriter led us in chants, protest songs and encouragement to resist, disrupt and contact our representatives.

The two hours went by quickly in spite of the cold and at the conclusion, a representative of Senator Schumer's office met with some of the members of the crowd. On Friday all of those who registered for the event have been invited to meet with a representative from Senator Schumer’s office on Zoom.

Other events took place in cities throughout NY including Albany, Buffalo, and Binghamton.

*Sorry that I did not take names and notes. It was too cold to take my mittens off!
