Can the Democrats request access to the same data that Musk is accessing? [1]

While I think much of the criticism of the Democratic pols falls somewhere between pointless and entitled (if you think they should do something they aren’t doing, then either you do it or figure out how to help them do it), I do think there is a path that I haven’t seen yet.

If Musk, as a non-elected official who is barely nominally named to a non-governmental commission can access sensitive data, why can’t the Democrats simply create another non-governmental commission, name a person and demand access to the data. Use any legal construct you want, but generate a rationale for accessing the data that requires the Republicans to oppose it.

Just send people over to Treasury and make the demand. Bring the Capitol Police, the Treasury Police, whoever. Make the Republicans send the FBI or the Marshalls to stop it. Or just get enough approval to access the same data. Livestream the whole thing, call the media and tell them they are doing it to get on as many channels as possible.

The hope would be to both show the value of there being restrictions on access to the data, as well to get in and start documenting what these people are doing.

I think some people are trying to do this, but my hope would be that they could act more quickly and publicly than just sending a letter and waiting for someone to answer it.
