A Coup That Found Its Congress [1]

This week will in many ways be one of the most important ones in the history of America. If we witness the confirmations of the cabinet members put forward, particularly Kash Patel and Pam Bondi, you can be certain that the Republican senators are down with Trump’s complete takeover of government. That his enemies are their enemies and they are ok with his retribution campaign. Democrats in congress have few tools available to them to stop it. The SCOTUS immunity decision surrounding executive actions paved the way for a different kind of Government. Elections have consequences.
I’m not sure if the general public knows to what extent this is not business as usual politics in play. That this is something different. It’s more like a coup. It’s what Erdogan pulled off in Turkey and Orban established in Hungary. It’s the same playbook. It might not feel that different to the average person at first. I learned through this last election a broad swath of people aren’t tuned into these kinds of things. Social scientists have discovered about a third of people prefer an autocratic, strong man type of government.

Russian Journalist Masha Gessen now living in America laid it all out for us in her book, Surviving Autocracy. She may now have to go find another country.
We have another election in 2 years. If Americans decide to vote out the people who supported this takeover that are up for reelection then some if this can be mitigated without it getting completely implemented. They won’t have the time necessary to irreparably embed it. If not, they will have a sufficient hold on the levers of power to impact future elections benefitting Trump’s successors. I am not a conspiracy minded alarmist, this is exactly what’s transpiring.
