Okay, so yesterday I posted a query about this "fifty capitols fifty marches" planned for Wednesday Feb 5th in Augusta. I thank those who provided me with clues as to what is happening, because they led me to figure out who was behind this effort. Today, I shared what I learned with the Waldo County Democrats on their FaceBook page.
Executive Summary:
The protest is real, if we make it so. The protest will be at the State House in Augusta Wednesday Feb 5th 2025. I haven't seen the permit but I am told that people in Portland submitted one for noon to 8 PM. I will be there from 11 on - with my trumpet. usually the tee vee cameras will be there around noon in order to get footage for the evening news.
Find it on FaceBook? www.facebook.com/ … On that site, it lists the Kennebec County Democratic Committee as co-sponsors.

The major ask? go to: right now is to pressure Senator Collins to vote against the nominations of Patel, Kennedy, Gabbard, and ( especially) Russell Vought. They are suggesting we organize group visits to the local offices of members of Congress. go to: Nix the Noms right now, the best thing we can dois to pressure Senator Collins to vote against the nominations of Patel, Kennedy, Gabbard, and ( especially) Russell Vought. They are suggesting we organize group visits to the local offices of members of Congress.
Practical tips:
1) weather is expected to be clear with a high of 20 degrees. Wear warm clothes in layers!
2) bring a sign. fyi, if your sign is on a pole, the State House police regards it as a spear - a potential weapon, so- no flagpoles.
3) Wear blue? this is a suggestion from Indivisible; Maybe i will work in Florida, but in Maine it is optional when you are wearing two layers of wool over it.
4) flags? bring an American flag or Canadian Flag.
5) parking? please carpool, parking is tight even on a good day. Bring your friends.
6) gathering point: the plaza between the State House and the Cross Office Building.
7) singing: like Joshua at Jericho, we can use music to create solidarity.
8) talking to the media: do not use profanity. stay on message.
for safety:
1) this is nonviolent. The First Amendment says we have a right to peaceably assemble and to present our grievances.
2) do NOT engage with counterprotesters if any show up. Obey any directives from Capitol Police or other Law Enforcement. Stop any person who vandalizes property, and promptly report them to nearby Law Enforcement.
