I'm Back for More Politics [1]

I’ve made no secret of the fact that Trump’s election depressed me, but what was worse was I couldn’t persuade anybody, even one of my siblings, to vote against him. My family of origin considers themselves to be “moderates,” however, they’ve always sounded damn conservative, or even radical right, to me, echoing Fox News and assholes like Joe Rogan in their texts. They’d also believe some of the Q-Anon conspiracy theories, like Democratic trafficking cults and the “conspiracy” to push the LBGQT “agenda.”
I failed to make even a dent in their solid steel mindsets. My brothers were convinced that unemployment and inflation statistics were “fixed” to make Biden look successful, and they’d give me a link to a website that had the “real” statistics. My sister was especially upset about border “invasion.” I tried to tell her that the “solution” Republicans advocated would lead to genocide.
The moderate delusion
They’re “independent thinkers,” you see. No, they didn’t vote for Trump, (at least most didn’t), but I couldn’t persuade them to vote for Kamala Harris or Joe Biden. RW propaganda has been very effective on its attacks on Democratic candidates. All of their discussions were about Biden and Harris’s honesty. When I told my sister that a non-vote was the equivalent of half a vote for Trump, she would say, “Why are you bringing up Trump? I’m not voting for him. Why are you so obsessed with him?”
This was followed by some snide remarks from my brothers about my “Trump derangement syndrome.” You see, in their belief system, Biden/Harris and Trump weighed equally. Conservatives and liberals were both authoritarian. It made me want to gouge my eyes out with a screwdriver and pry out my teeth with an ice pick.
My sister is the opinion leader of the family, a very strong personality. When I would point out that Trump was a fascist, she would say, “Define fascism.” Of course, she’d scoff when I’d say that Trump was like Hitler.
After the assassination attempt on Trump, they convinced themselves against all evidence that it must be a Democratic conspiracy. Note they also don’t think they’re conspiratorial in their thinking.
I BTW, have never been married. All of my siblings are. This means I was outnumbered 8–1. My lifetime struggles with mental and neurological disorders don’t lend me credibility. They saw me at my worst for decades
Not a lot to say now
They’ve been strangely mute about Trump’s ruinous Executive Orders and policies, Elon Musk’s purging of government employees, and the US conversion into an absolute surveillance state. Never mind the ramming through of tariffs. At least my brothers know that’s disastrous.
They’ve been silent, except my sister did say, “I’m sad Neil Cavuto left Fox. He was one of the few voices of reasons [sic], and I watched him. I’m bummed..damn you Trump.”
So, the only thing that bears commenting is the loss of a favorite infotainment celebrity. Here’s an article about Cavuto. Note that it’s classified as entertainment news.
Rachel Maddow’s on MSNBC for five days a week again. Let’s see how long that lasts.
While conservatives loved “Owning the Libs,” it never occurred to them that what we try to do was also in conservatives’ best interests. Yes, that sounds like exactly like an arrogant, elitist lib. However, the libs will be proven right, and conservative voters will now learn it the hard way, including those who thought they were moderates.
Inflation and shortages are already upon us. I will be spending the next week clearing junk out of my apartment to make room for necessity stockpiles. I’ve never done this for any of the other end-of-the-world panics, not even during 2008 or COVID. I suggest it to every American now. We’re about to experience biblical “long-lean years.”
I’m through with my post-election ouch. I’m back in politics, and I want to be involved directly, in person.
