Rooted in the Nation's Historical Traditions. [1]

A federal appeals court just ruled that it is unconstitutional to apply age restrictions to those wanting to buy guns. That we can’t restrict guns to those only 21 and above.

An NBC story states “In the past, the appeals court has upheld the age restriction. However, since the Supreme Court’s ruling that said firearm restrictions must be rooted in the nation’s historical traditions, judges in states like Minnesota, Virginia and Texas have struck down similar laws.”

Lets apply that logic ("must be rooted in the nation's historical traditions") to some other reflection points in our history. Applying that logic to our daily lives today would make women and blacks unable to vote and blacks still in slavery. Abortion would be legal. Dueling would be legal. The gold standard would back our dollar (you think the economy is bad now....). And our schools would remain segregated. Obviously chaos would reign. All in the name of sticking to our nation's historical traditions. Bullshit.

As we move forward in time the world changes and we adapt. Societies constantly change their measurement of good and evil. Of what is acceptable and not acceptable. To anchor ourselves to a distant past by narrowly restricting our deliberations to focus only on blindly bowing to the nation's historical traditions is the epitome of lazy thought. Of inadequate intelligence. And apparently, of Republican/Conservative ambition.
