I know there are lots of stories up now about the midair collision between an American Airlines flight and a military helicopter, and many of those stories are about how Trump immediately politicized the crash, blaming Biden and “DEI.” I’m throwing another diary into the pile because I think the title, a quote from Rep. Nanette Barragán (D-Calif.), so perfectly sums up Trump that it deserves special recognition.
"What a Horrible, Pathetic Little Man."
Not that she is the only Democrat in a spitting rage. Trump's 'Grotesque' Plane Crash Comments Leave Democrats Gobsmacked (HuffPo):
“Listen, it’s one thing for internet pundits to spew off conspiracies, it’s another for the president of the United States to throw out idle speculation as bodies are still being recovered and families are still being notified,” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said in a statement. “It just turns your stomach.”
At least 4 other Democratic Senators expressed similar outrage. Republican Senators, meanwhile, are described as having “shied away from embracing Trump’s remarks.” Which, I suppose, passes for courage among the GOP these days. The Republican congressman suggested without evidence that hiring preferences for nonwhite candidates contribute to a fatal aviation accident.
And finally, my candidate for the Chutzpah of the Year Award* is this: Trump launched air controller diversity program that he now decries:
Trump claimed that he had changed Obama’s criteria for hiring air traffic controllers with greater diversity — when in fact he left it unchanged. Moreover, he decried the fact that FAA hired controllers with a range of disabilities that he listed at the news conference. But that program was launched during his first term. Four Pinocchios
*It is more likely that this will make the Chutzpah of the Week category, I’m sorry to say. I shudder to think what the winner of the Chutzpah of the Year Award will be.
