Keep it simple about the FAA [1]

I have seen a number of stories that link the racism of Republicans with the failures of the FAA that led to the tragic crash at DCA last night. While the arguments are likely true, I think it is a messaging mistake that plays into the hands of MAGA.
The basic lesson of this tragedy is simple:
All of us count on a strong federal government to assure the safety and smooth functioning of airlines. We need to make sure that our federal government remains strong and well-staffed in performing these functions. The GOP has opposed common sense ways of doing this, from Reagan in the 80s to Trump in 2017.
The reason we should stick to this simple story is because nearly everyone intuitively understands and agrees with it. They just forget to connect the dots between good, health government and which politicians are running.
Right or wrong, DEI has much less broad popularity. Mixing that in complicates the message and dilutes the accountability. That’s why Trump wants to take the story there — we should not let him.
If we stick to the basic story of:
We all want to be able to fly safely and efficiently and we all need a good federal air travel authority to do that
The GOP has consistently tried to take these services away so they can fund tax cuts for rich people, many of whom don’t fly commercial anyway.
Voting for Republicans makes air travel unsafe and more burdensome for you and your family.
Let’s keep the message focused on what good, strong government means for every American family, regardless of who they are.
