How weirdly resonant, across the ages. A horrifying incident inbound to Ronald Reagan.
In 1981, I was on staff at KMXT, an NPR member station in Kodiak, Alaska. The Reaganauts had just declared The Great Defunding of public broadcasting. Then, RR fired all of the nation’s Air Traffic Controllers. The immediate public support for public broadcasting was such that we didn’t have to cut back significantly on our operations. In fact, we were able to hire an additional person for the News Department. He was one of the PATCO ATC dudes that had just been fired. Too bad about airport operations a little bit down the coast.
