A modest proposal for the resistance [1]

I often see comments here from people saying it’s no use contacting their senators or representatives about issues because they are all Republicans and won’t listen. I understand how you, as an individual, might feel that way. Nevertheless, when you oppose what your members of Congress and the administration are doing, I believe it is imperative to express your opposition to them in strong terms. My senators and my representative are Democrats, fortunately, but I still get in touch with them (repeatedly, I’m sure they’d complain) to give them my thoughts about their actions.
So how about calling on the power of the group? During the election, Democratic activists got together and held letter writing parties to encourage people to get out and vote for Democratic candidates. Let’s summon the strength of the group by putting together similar parties for letter writing, phoning, texting, and/or commenting on your Congress members’ social sites to express your opposition to their actions. They may not listen to individual commenters but if they get flooded by angry complaints from a group of their constituents, they may just think twice before before doing something they know will rile people. If they hear nothing at all, however, they will believe they are doing what their constituents want.
Here’s one place the Democratic Party could act, given the will to do so. Get your local Democratic Party groups to organize and hold grassroots opposition campaigns. Ally with the members of local resistance organizations as well. Given the recent growth of these organizations, I’m sure you would find lots of willing participants. If you are already organizing group opposition, good for you! Please publicize your efforts widely so we can all join in.
If we don’t like what the administration and Congress are doing, let’s let them know about it loud and clear.
