The East Palestine train derailment (2023) and a Congressional staffer in 2025 [1]

The East Palestine, Ohio train derailment on February 3, 2023 was bad enough all by itself for folks in Ohio and nearby western Pennsylvania. However, today, in 2025, those hundreds that were affected are in limbo over the cost associated with putting up a bond to continue their appeal for a better settlement from Norfolk Southern than the $600 million on offer so far.
To bring you up to speed on this derailment, here is one story that may remind you of what happened and some of the impacts on local and regional air and water:
However, there was and remains so much more to this story, with some of it to do with, you guessed it, a Trump Republican.
After the accident happened a local charity, The Second Harvest Food Bank in the Mahoning Valley, stepped up to help residents with the bottled water they so desperately needed following the accident. So far, so good.
At least until along came another "charity," calling itself the Ohio Clean Water Fund, that purported to be operating on behalf of The Second Harvest Food Bank. It was not.
